I dare you to read these books. I dare you to put it down. I dare you to love it…
What do you do when the devil has you in his sights?
You show him that you can play his game.
Austin Lowes is new to town. She’s running from a mom who hates her to her dad who cares nothing about her. Only a few months and she will be free, or at least, that’s what she hopes … until she meets him.
Cole Reynolds is the devil disguised as a man. He wants her fear, he wants her blood, and he wants her soul.
Just a little game, he says, I dare you.
Will Austin survive him, or will she lose herself and the game?
Secrets are revealed and justice will be served, but at what cost?
Who survives and who doesn’t?
So, where to start? I love myself a good dark romance and this was one of the bests. Even if it is a Young Adult, it certainly has explicit scenes that require a mature audience. Believe me. This is not your typical YA book.
Austin was basically abandoned by both her parents, even though she was living with them. She learned to be tough and fend for herself, defend herself. She comes to his father’s place to stay relatively safe for the last few months before graduation. Although her plans are thrown out the window the very first night when she witnesses something she should not have witnessed.
“I wanna watch tears roll down your beautiful face because I think you’re gorgeous when you cry. I wanna see blood on your flawless skin because you look like a priceless work of art.”
Now Cole Reynolds has her in his sight and he wants to play with her. He is feeding off on her fears and blood, wants everything that Austin can give and cannot give to him. But what if you show him that you can also play this game? Austin and Cole realize they are much more alike than they have thought. It is time for justice, revenge and to right some wrongs. But in the end, is it worth the love they can have?
“Even the devil catches feelings, or he wouldn’t go into rages. Even he knows how to love.”
Or will Cole destroy everything he holds dear? Even Austin.
This book was truly amazing from the very first page until the last. It just gripped my attention and never let go. I wanted to know how the story ends for them and it did not disappoint me in the end. Shantel Tessier sure knows how to write a gripping dark fairy tale with the most fantastic characters in it.
