Bella Forrest – A Shade of Vampire #1 – A Shade of Vampire

Blurb:

On the evening of Sofia Claremont’s seventeenth birthday, she is sucked into a nightmare from which she cannot wake.

A quiet evening walk along a beach brings her face to face with a dangerous pale creature that craves much more than her blood.

She is kidnapped to an island where the sun is eternally forbidden to shine.
An island uncharted by any map and ruled by the most powerful vampire coven on the planet. She wakes here as a slave, a captive in chains.

Sofia’s life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn when she is the one selected out of hundreds of girls to join the harem of Derek Novak, the dark royal Prince.

Despite his addiction to power and obsessive thirst for her blood, Sofia soon realizes that the safest place on the island is within his quarters, and she must do all within her power to win him over if she is to survive even one more night.

Will she succeed? …or is she destined to the same fate that all other girls have met at the hands of the Novaks?

I have to tell you, I was expecting something remotely resembling Twilight. When it actually did not, I was a little bit surprised. In a good way. But then, I have to tell you, this book still had its own faults.

Perhaps I have no patience at all for young characters anymore. I can understand they can do stupid things, they are doing unexpected things, but hey… I mean, this girl supposed to be a genius. She has a mental health issue that she totally forgets for the better part of the book, then they explain everything with some bullshit and that is that. Her problems are solved in under a minute.

For a person, who has panic attacks and lived with a serious anxiety issue, this is totally unlogical. Either she has something or she does not. And vampires. Their colony was built up in a solid system, I totally could love them – they live in tree houses, how cool is that -, but I totally got nothing from the Novak family. I really was a little bit confused about their story. Hopefully, this will change in the next books.

It was like teenager drama from the very beginning. And I think this was a fault because of its length. This supposed to be a full-length novel, but I had the feeling it was only a novelette or something. It wanted to tell you a lot of things under pressure and under a few minutes. I was able to read it in 3 hours give or take.

But still, not the worst book I read. If you love a good vampire love story, young adult books, and Twilight then you are definitely in for a fun time.
