Donna Grant – Dark Kings #1 – Darkest Flame

18718275Dragons… Kings… Delicous alpha males. What more can a girl wish for?

The Dark Kings have fought for centuries to preserve their dragon magic. But one of the most powerful warriors of his kind will be put to the ultimate test. Is he strong enough to resist his greatest temptations? Or will he be forced to surrender—body and soul?

Denae Lacroix is a beautiful MI5 agent on a deadly mission. Sent to the Scottish Highlands to spy on the mysterious Dreagan Industries, she discovers too late that she’s been set up—as human bait. She is an irresistible lure for a man who has not seen or touched a woman for centuries. He is a man with a destiny—and a desire—that could destroy them both…

It’s been twelve hundred years since Kellan has walked among humans—and there’s no denying the erotically charged attraction he feels for Denae. But as a Dragon King, he is sworn to protect his secrets. Yet the closer he gets to this smart, ravishing woman, the more her life is in danger. All it takes is one reckless kiss to unleash a flood of desire, the fury of dragons… and the fiercest enemy of all.

Of course, I had to start with the second series – or is it a spin-off? I did not read the Dark Warriors series – yet, a mistake I plan to make right -, I instantly started with this series. Even if you are not familiar with the overall story, the past, you can fairly follow the happenings. The Dark Kings takes over where the Dark Warriors left it, of course, it is also a still on-going series. This one focuses on the Dragon Kings, but we also see the Warriors.

Kellan hates the humans, he harbors serious dislike for them. In fact, he did not really agree with Con – the King of Kings – to send away their dragons, hide and protect the humans as shadows. He forced himself to sleep for hundreds of years for this exact reason. Then a human female stumbles upon his lair wakes him up and starts a series of events nobody was expecting.

I liked the action, the thrill and the growing love in the story. It was well-written, balanced and of course, we also learned some things from their past. I would have loved to see the dragons soaring above the sky. Oh, and did I mention, that they are living in Scotland? Scots, dragons, plaids, alpha males… This series cannot get any hotter than this. It is a sure winner.

Read it, you must. Buy it, I advise.
