Abbi Glines – Sea Breeze #2 – Because of Low

16117358 Abbi Glines became my favorite author when I read the Existence trilogy. I just fell in love with her style, her characters, and the fantastic story.

Of course, a trilogy won’t be too much of a read. Especially, if it makes you read fast. So I had to find another gem.

And here we go. The second installment in the Sea Breeze series, right after the emotional love story of Jax and Sadie in Breathe…

Marcus Hardy had hoped to enjoy a year away at college while he put the summer he’d rather forget behind him. But instead, he’s jerked right back to the coastal town of Sea Breeze, Alabama due to a family crisis. His dear ol’ dad found himself a girlfriend only a few years older than Marcus. So now his sister needs help dealing with their mother who is mentally falling apart. The only bright spot to returning is the fascinating red head who sleeps over several times a week. The problem is she’s sleeping in bed with his new roommate, Cage York.
Willow “Low” Foster needs a place to live. Running to Cage’s apartment every time her sister kicks her out isn’t exactly a long term solution. Juggling her courses at the local community college and a part time job doesn’t produce excess income. But Cage has a new roommate and suddenly sleeping over at her best friend’s apartment isn’t such a bad thing. Not when she gets to see those sexy green eyes of Marcus Hardy’s twinkle when he smiles at her like he wants her there.
Even though Cage seems a little territorial where Low is concerned, Marcus finds time to spend with Low without upsetting his roommate. Cage may use his small college baseball star persona to sleep with every hot female in his path but he’s still under the disillusion that when he’s through sowing his wild oats, he’s going to marry Low. Marcus intends to change that assumption for both Cage and Low. Until his carefully laid plans come crashing down with a revelation he never expected. He’ll have to choose between Low or his family. Because once the truth comes out…. there’s no other choice.

I will try to keep my review as spoiler-free as possible. But… I can’t promise you anything.

First of all, let’s take a look at our heroine. Willow – or Low – has a sad excuse as a family. Her sister always gets in trouble and has a really cute daughter. But regardless, her sister is using Low. Low grew up in a shitty part of town. Her only friend and neighbor was Cage. They stick together, Low even runs for him when shit gets real. And she can always rely on Cage. When she calls, Cage gets the phone even in mid-sex. So… He keeps saying when they are ready, he will marry Low one day. Low doesn’t think this is serious, she sees him as a brother.

So, then appears Marcus. He will be Cage’s new roommate. Immediately there’s that spark between our heroes neither of them can deny. Cage is jealous and angry, he steps up between them stating that Low will not be enough for Marcus ’cause his family is rich and snob. But little does he know that Marcus’s family is on the brink of breaking apart. The complication intensifies a notch when Low and Marcus fall in love.

I have to admit, this was the first time that the hero and the heroine both irritated me a little. Perhaps Low was the sanest one, Cage also had some annoying remarks. I couldn’t love the book as much as I hoped, no matter how much I tried. But although it is full of cliché and drama the story itself is funny, entertaining and worth reading. Nobody and nothing is perfect so deal with it. Apart from all the little imperfections, I can confidently recommend it. You will not regret reading this book.

Abbi GlinesAbbi Glines is a #1 New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal bestselling author of the Rosemary Beach, Sea Breeze, Vincent Boys, Field Party and Existence series. She never cooks unless baking during the Christmas holiday counts. She believes in ghosts and has a habit of asking people if their house is haunted before she goes in it. She drinks afternoon tea because she wants to be British but alas she was born in Alabama. When asked how many books she has written she has to stop and count on her fingers. When she’s not locked away writing, she is reading, shopping (major shoe and purse addiction), sneaking off to the movies alone, and listening to the drama in her teenagers lives while making mental notes on the good stuff to use later. Don’t judge.
